Frey Pe-01 bronze

kr160.00

2 in stock

This pendant is based on a bronze statuette from around the year 1000, discovered in Sörmland (Rällinge). It depicts the fertility god Frey.

Freyr was believed to bring good harvests, peace, pleasure, and livestock prosperity. He was the foremost god of eroticism and fertility and was responsible for rain and sunshine. Frey was known for bestowing wealth, health, and fertility. His twin sister is Freyja, the goddess of fertility.

The original, also made of bronze and about 7 cm tall, is now housed in the Historical Museum in Stockholm. It is the only confirmed finding of Frey, but remains of similar figures have also been found, which may have been depictions of Frey, albeit in much poorer condition.
