There are many different finds of animal-shaped brooches from the Viking Age, beautifully ornamented birds, bears, and swirling dragons in Urnes style. Central to the Urnes style is ‘the great beast’ with alternating wide and narrow lines and S- or eight-shaped loops, long neck, and a slender head.
