This strap divider is based on a find from Halla on Gotland. The original was made of bronze and is now at the Historical Museum in Stockholm. See: Link to the original.
The purpose of strap dividers was likely to provide a good way to hang swords, but they are also excellent for giving bags and similar items a nice place on the belt. Attachments to the leather were often made with metal plates, but can also be sewn on.
