This pendant is based on a firesteel-shaped pendant found in Birka.
Firesteel-shaped pendants are a type of amulet found at several Viking Age sites, and they are generally believed to symbolize Freyr or Freyja. It is possible that the association with firesteel was related to fertility, as ashes symbolize new life. This interpretation is also seen in the myth where Freyr is slain by the fire giant Surtr during Ragnarök. After this event, a new world will arise, making fire a necessary part of renewal and vitality. Fire and life are intertwined.
The pendant is made of bronze.
