This brooch is based on a find from Lindholm Høje in Denmark from around the year 1000.

The model is found in both Denmark and Norway. A very beautiful brooch in Urnes style, which was a Viking Age artistic style that emerged in the Nordic region during the later part of the 10th century, named after the Urnes Stave Church in Sogn, Norway. Central to the Urnes style is “the great beast” with alternating broad and narrow lines, S- or figure-eight-shaped loops, a long neck, and a graceful head.
