This ear spoon is based on a find from Birka. It is from the black earth and is not part of a grave find. The original is now at the Historical Museum in Stockholm and can be seen here: Birka Ear Spoon
Ear spoons are small spoon-like tools that were used during the Viking Age and up until the late Middle Ages, and in some places, they were used up until the 1800s to clean the ears from earwax and other impurities. During the Viking Age, they appear to have been worn by women, often hanging from the brooches. Most ear spoon finds come from Birka and Gotland.
